The daffodils and crocuses are starting to bloom, the forsythia bushes are bursting forth in color, and the air is starting to get warmer.....spring is well on its way! And I am quite pleased with that fact. π
While I am ecstatic about the warmer weather and spring....another part of me is rather mad at the fact that we didn't get any cumulative snow this year. Why do you ask? For this reason:
Okay, okay. I need to explain myself. Soooo....this fall and spring semester I have been taking college classes at a local community college. Before this I was homeschooled. From pre-k to 12th grade (aka: all of my life). Being homeschooled was an amazing experience, and I am extremely grateful to my parents for sacrificing so much to teach my siblings and I at home. However, since we were homeschooled, we got no snow days. Thusly, we would have to sit inside and do school on those beautiful snow days when all the public school kids were out sledding and building snowmen. Now, we did get some time outside, but we still had to get our school done for that day, so we NEVER had an actual snow day.
This would be why I am disappointed, rather annoyed, and a little mad. But, other than the fact that there have been no snow cancellations, the college experience has been okay.
Ze pros:
- The fact that I have several classes with friends this year! π
- No extremely long breaks between classes
- The professors this semester have been generally nice and helpful
- Going to the school gym with friends
- A surprising selection of Christian fiction books at the college library π
- A cute little chipmunk that scurries around one of the picnic tables that I often frequent in warmer weather (it makes me sooo happy, guys! π)
- Those places made to fill up water bottles near the water fountain *a blessing*
- Getting to know and meet new people
- Classrooms with windows π
- The fact that my history professor actually showed a film last class period!
- My music jams to listen to when studyingπ
- Midterms are now over!!!!!
Ze cons:
- Some of the professors last semester were *ahem* very much anti-Christianity and other such things, making it harder to sit through lectures at times.
- How ridiculously expensive books are!!! (Like seriously, why????)
- Extremely heavy backpacks
- A low-key embarrassing moment last semester in which while walking up some stairs I bent over to retrieve my fallen-off-flip-flop, lost my balance because of my backpack, and proceeded to topple over a stair, landing close to my friend behind me... the whole moment seen by some random guys walking the other way down the stairs.
- Being an awkward minute late to class because of traffic
- Staying up most all night studying and preparing for an assignment that was really due several days later....
But in reality, college hasn't been that bad so far, and being able to have classes with friends has really helped the semester go by much more enjoyably.
I will leave off with a video from Katie Gregiore....wait...now I guess it's Katie Emmerson!!! π(she got married super recently, for those who don't know, and I am very happy about this.) Anyhew, her video about homeschooler going to college is very relatable and funny, so I will leave you off with this and wish you all the best in your endeavors. God bless and enjoy!π
All the yes, sister, ALL THE YES!
ReplyDeleteI approve of this post and relate very hard. xD xD
(Seriously. The textbook prices. It is a disgusting, money-grubbing endeavor, that's what it is.)
Music jams for studying -- YAAAAASSS.
Katie!! *squeals* I saw her video for David (I guess we were wrong about the whole Valentine's Day idea ;D), but I didn't know that his last name was Emmerson. Happies!! :D <3
EEEEKK YOUR HEADER! Jo <3 <3 <3 And that verse from Ecclesiastes is one of my favorites!! :D
Eeeek! *winky face* ;) And yes, textbook prices are a "disgusting, money-grubbing endeavor".
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I guess we were wrong about the Valentine's day idea, but I'm actually kinda glad they didn't get married then...with the school shooting and all.
Aww! Thank you! I absolutely LOVE your header, as well! :) It's so aesthetically pleasing. :)
